Show A Bit Of Bloody Respect

I think it's fair to say that Andriy Shevchenko hasn't exactly had the best first season in English football. But when - as one of the SkySports pundits did today - someone says that Shevchenko could take a tip or two from Birmingham City's Gary McSheffrey in the goalscoring stakes, it's time to take a step back and just remember who the hell we're talking about here.

This isn't a Diego Forlan or Mateja Kezman situation...this is a guy that is proven at the highest level for a decade. Show the guy some bloody respect because as sure as eggs is eggs, Shevchenko will come good.

Just as a reminder, Shevchenko scored 173 in 296 for AC Milan; 99 in 164 for Dynamo Kiev; is the second top goalscorer ever in The Champions League, won the golden boot; is AC Milan's second top scorer of all time, won The Champions League, won Serie A.

Gary McSheffrey, by contrast, won a deal with Birmingham City by playing quite well for Coventry.

Shevchenko deserves some respect.

Agree 100%. Although I've never considered him to be one of the best 10 strikers of all time, as some people claim, he is definitely one of the best strikers. It's not just the goal scoring, it's his assists, passes and ball control in general. To compare him with an average player who had a good season is idiotic. The guy is an unbelievable asset on the field even when he does not score, and, I think he will be one of the top scorers in the league, given a chance. From what I have seen watching Chelsea play, it's not like he gets a lot of opportunities from other playes on the team, which is vital for a striker. Many of the commentators, especially outside of Europe, don't really understand the intricacies of the game. Personality has also a lot to do with how the player performs, especially in a new surroundings. Not making excuses for anyone. Shevchenko's record speaks for itself. In soccer, such records can only be built on talent.

I also agree 100%, I have always been a huge Shevchenko fan since his time with Kiev, he has always been a trumendous player even since his youth, his goalscoring ability is beyond belief, I am a Chelsea fan and I hope for the best, he needs a few games to get going, then he will show the rest of the world just why Chelsea payed £30m for him.
