And This Weeks Issue Is...Protection for Goalkeepers

Following the horrendous injuries to Petr Cech and Carlo Cudicini, we have Arsene Wenger jumping on the bandwagon, wanting increased protection for goalkeepers.

And, which goalkeeper does Mr Wenger think needs protecting the most. Yup, that's right...that delicate flower, Mr Jens Lehmann. Wenger even goes so far as to claim that
Lehmann is 'targeted' by opposing players.

No? Is he really? How shocking that Lehmann - who reacts furiously if another player has the gall to even stand near him in the penalty area - is "targeted for special treatment".

Of course he is, Arsene, because he shoves any player that is within a yard of him and causes himself and your team problems as a result.

And what are Lehmann's thoughts on all this. Well, somewhat unsurprisingly, he too wants more protection for himself. After all, being nearly 2 metres tall and around 14 stone just isn't enough.

His quote : "I have never injured a player and I really want to retain this record because I respect my opponents. But now if they want to have a go at me then I will have to change my game because there is no protection from the referees."

Ah, right. So, Lehmann wants more protection from refs in case he gets injured but, if he doesn't get that, he will deliberately injure someone. What sound logic that is. Stupid sod.
